Eatalia
About This Spot
Stepping into Eatalia on The Broadway in Thorpe Bay feels like slipping into a quiet corner of Italy, right in the heart of Southend-on-Sea. Warmth radiates not just from the oven where pizzas are crafted with care, but from the genuine welcome given by the staff, creating a space that marries comfort with a lively, authentic buzz. The pace here is unhurried yet attentive—an inviting spot where you can linger over a meal or pop in for a relaxed lunch, knowing you’re in good hands.
The atmosphere carries the gentle hum of a family-run establishment where everyone seems to know their role and enjoys what they do. It’s the kind of place where the clink of glasses and soft conversation blend effortlessly with the scent of fresh dough baking and rich, savory sauces simmering. Whether you choose one of their richly flavorful pizzas straight from the stone oven or the homey warmth of pasta dishes like linguine with crab or spaghetti alle vongole, each bite feels thoughtfully made, with a focus on simple, quality ingredients and comforting portion sizes.
There’s a quiet joy in watching an experienced pizzaiolo handcraft each pizza, or the way a dish of cheesy garlic bread arrives with just enough garlic to brighten the senses without overwhelming. For those looking to pause and indulge, a slice of chocolate fudge cake or a classic Italian espresso completes the experience, inviting you to savor the moment gently.
Eatalia captures the essence of an Italian neighborhood spot—unpretentious yet inviting, perfect for a spontaneous brunch, a casual coffee break, or a leisurely dinner. Its charm lies in the small human moments: the welcoming smile from the staff, the friendly chatter between tables, and the steady rhythm of a kitchen turning out honest, heartening food. This is a place where the local rhythm blends effortlessly with Italian culinary tradition, offering a quietly satisfying escape without ever leaving home.

We went for a quick brunch. Was shown a table immediately even though we had not prebooked and they were busy. The staff especially Michael was so welcoming. We ordered Spaghetti Aglio e Olio and cheesy garlic bread. The chef made it to our taste- extra garlic and fresh home made pasta. Loved the food. A great local Authentic family run Italian restaurant

Nice little cafe, just dropped in on the off chance. Attentive and well trained staff, even the youngest staff. ( Not meaning to sound patronising!) Decent coffee and sandwich , and the cakes were pretty good. Good atmosphere, nice and warm on a cold day! Worth a visit if you haven't been there before.

A great place for lunch on the Broadway! A lovely terrace to enjoy a drink or a meal outdoors. Very good food done quickly. Great Pizzas made by an Italian Pizzaiolo (Renato). The pasta is all served with generous portions and proper home made Italian sauces. Great selections of desserts!

Visited with my lady as an off the cuff lunchtime treat. The previous evening she mentioned not having food to bring to work, she works nearby and we had discussed this place previously. We explained our need for a brisk lunch to the waiter and chose a margaretia pizza & cheesy garlic bread. A pizza oven is nestled behind the counter of various pastries & hot drinks as you enter. The food was enjoyable and made for a decent lunchtime visit. The dining area is toward the rear with numerous 2 & 4 seat tables with a frosted skylight to naturally add light to the space.
